The Greater Ortonville Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting was held at noon on September 9 at Brandon High School. The minutes are as follows:
The meeting was called to order by President Robert Renchik.
New Administrative Assistant for Brandon High School Superintendent, Bart Jenniches introduced his new Administrative Assistant, Rhonda Wood. Rhonda will be replacing Judy Learst who retired.
Treasurer’s Report – Midge Bauman of Maple Lane Kennels provided the Treasurer’s report and it was approved.
Septemberfest – Fred Waybrant passed out a flyer with information about the 15th Annual Septemberfest to be held on Saturday, September 27 in downtown Ortonville. He is looking for volunteers to help direct traffic. The Pub is seeking approval for a beer tent, and ensuing conversation discussed legal liabilities and advertising issues. Robert Renchik will run the Chamber’s function – the dunk tank – which will take place between 1 - 5 p.m. by the Fire Department.
Christmas in the Village – Robert Renchik is looking for volunteers to chair the various events. The Gingerbread House contest will be at the Historical Mann School. We are soliciting donations for children’s prizes. The library will host a “construction” seminar on Saturday, October 18 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in which participants will learn how to bake, make and decorate a gingerbread house from the foundation up. Please call the Library at 248-627-1460 as tickets are limited.
August Chamber Luncheon at the Old Mill Museum – The August meeting at the Old Mill was a hit with everyone and suggestions were made to do it again next year.
Golf Outing – Candee Allen mailed thank you notes and photos to participants and hole sponsors.
Luncheon Speaker – Charles Owens from the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business) was the guest speaker. NFIB is a powerful lobbying group, which among other things, works for better health care insurance for small businesses. A handout was provided, and additional questions or concerns may be sent to email@example.com.
